Mountain Savory Oil



Mountain savory is also known as winter savory. It's a native of Europe. It comes from the mint family. It's a perennial herb that grows to a height of 41 cm.  It’s semi evergreen and semi woody. It produces white flowers but some species produce burgundy to purple flowers.

It has a sharp and herbaceous aroma. It's clear yellow in color and has a thin consistency. It's extracted by steam distillation of the flowers.

Uses
  1. On the body
v  It is a very strong antiseptic which is used to hasten the healing of wounds, cuts and abscess. It does this by hastening of the growth of a scar tissue thus preventing the wound from being infected.
v  Due to it's antibacterial properties it kills germs and purifies the air thus preventing diseases caused by bacteria, fungus and even viruses. This can be useful in treating of colds and flu.
v  It boosts the immune system. It increases the amount of white cells thus ensuring that the body is well protected against diseases and since it is well protected you are able to go about your daily activity with a lot of energy.
v  It is a very strong antioxidant hence it can be used to rejuvenate the cells in the body. Due to this property it can also be used to reduce the risk of contracting age related diseases. studies have shown that due it's antioxidating properties it can be used to treat tumor and preventing them and in that way will aid in preventing cancer.
v  It's a digestive remedy for diarrhea, ulcers, flatulence, and colic. To treat diarrhea mix I drop of the oil with I tablespoon of a carrier oil of your choice and apply it on the abdomen massaging gently in a clockwise motion.
v  Due to it's property as a decongestant it's used to open the bronchial tubes and it also helps to open the sinus. It aids in lung inflammation and respiratory problems.  Just open a bottle mountain savory and inhale.
v  It improves circulation thus aiding in keeping the body warm and this makes it beneficial for arthritis and rheumatism.
v  It's a tonic for the whole body.
v  It improves digestion.
v  It gives a person an emotional high thus it helps to relieve pain and depression.  Including it’s meant to alleviate the disappointment.
v  In Ayurveda it's known as an aphrodisiac. It is said it opens the heart to love and allows the person to have an open mind in order to enjoy sexual experiences. So it's highly effective to people who have intimacy issues.
v  It's used in insect bites and bee stings.
v  It's a natural antibiotic.

It blends well with lavender, citrus oils, geranium, chamomile, rose and frankincense.

Precautions
Due to it's nature as a concentrated oil it should be thoroughly diluted before it is either ingested or applied to the skin. It's a dermal and mucus membrane irritant. Due this fact it should be given to young children and pregnant or lactating women.
